Safe on the road with driver assistance systems: know your car
A recent episode of the television program RADAR critically examined the operation of modern cars. The focus was on the shift from physical buttons to touchscreens and its impact on road safety (source: article in fragment Radar).
The ADAS Alliance emphasizes the importance of user-friendly operation, but also points out the driver's own responsibility to use ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) safely.
Driver assistance systems are designed to enhance safety, provided you understand how they work. To maximize the benefits of these systems, the ADAS Alliance recommends the following safety rules:
· Know the systems: Make sure you know exactly which driver assistance systems are available in your car.
End to the confusion of tongues
The Radar segment also highlighted another sticking point: the confusion of names. The "Lane Keep Assist" system is called "Lane Departure Prevention" by one manufacturer and "Lane Departure Warning" by another. This disparity creates unnecessary confusion.
The ADAS Alliance advocates for standardization in the naming of these systems. We therefore offer the ADAS dictionary to clarify the confusion of terms.
