Second ADAS Partner Event - Fall 2025

More than 40 participants from the ADAS Alliance gathered today at Haskoning in Delft for an inspiring afternoon on smart driver assistance systems, or ADAS. In the beautifully renovated building of the former Mining Engineering faculty at Delft University of Technology, participants exchanged knowledge and insights.

After a word of welcome from Anton van der Sanden (Director Haskoning) attended a series of substantive presentations. Each presentation highlighted a different aspect of the ADAS playing field:

  • Evert Klem (Haskoning)

– Relationship between ADAS and human-vehicle infrastructure

  • Arjan Dijkhuizen (RDW)

– ADAS and international developments

  • Boris van Waterschoot (Rijkswaterstaat)

– Hands-on experience with DCAS-like systems

  • Jaap Verweij (BOVAG)

– ADAS in practice

The presentations generated a great deal of interaction, questions, and recognition among the attendees. The complexity of the domain of driver assistance systems became clear once again: the interplay between infrastructure, vehicles, and people involves countless dependencies. While we traditionally focus primarily on human behavior, we increasingly see unexpected reactions from vehicles and systems themselves.

Besides the need to make infrastructure more "ADAS-friendly" and further improve driver assistance systems, several sessions emphasized the crucial role of human-vehicle interaction. The concept of "teaming with your vehicle"—in which the driver and system actively support each other—was further explained. Within this framework, a Driver-Vehicle Cooperation framework is being developed, which provides tools to strengthen this "team behavior" in practice.

The afternoon concluded with a shared conclusion: there is a wealth of knowledge in the field, but much work remains to be done. The ADAS Alliance's ambition remains firmly in place: promoting the safe and effective use of ADAS. Thanks to the commitment of all participants, we continue to make significant progress together.
