Campaign for safe use of driver assistance systems (ADAS) launched

Today, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management is launching a new public campaign on the importance of the safe use of driver assistance systems in cars, also known as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Minister Harbers (Infrastructure and Water Management) says: “Driver assistance systems make driving easier. I believe that these systems should be used sensibly, because in that case they can also contribute to road safety, sustainability and traffic flow. With the campaign that is now being launched, we show how driver assistance systems can be used optimally, in a safe manner.”

More and more help on the way

Driver assistance systems are found in more vehicles than is often assumed: ABS (a system that prevents a vehicle's wheels from locking when braking hard) has been mandatory since 2004. The number of driver assistance systems has increased by 59% compared to 2018. Because they are becoming more common, it is important that drivers also increasingly delve into these driver assistance systems. In addition to car owners, the campaign also targets (potential) car buyers and lease drivers.

The website komveiligthuis.nl/slim will go live today. This website will contain various tips on safe use, but people can also report it here if their driver assistance system is not working as expected. In addition, various communication expressions will be shown to help people get on their way safely. Such as the video 'Slim!'

In the campaign, the ministry is working with the parties of the ADAS Alliance, who promote the importance of using driver assistance systems safely.
